The Rock Walk that I am proposing,
would be an approximately two mile
self-guided interactive walk that starts
at the Boulder in the Upper Common,
continues past several historic and
interesting sites in that area, makes its
way up Rollstone Street to Bruce
Street where we access Rollstone Hill.
Following already established and well
used trails, the walk continues to the
original location of the Boulder on
Rollstone's summit.  From the summit,
and again using already established
trails, we "loop" around the East side
of the mountain and make our way
back to the main trail.

Along the route would be a series of
strategically and permanently placed,
interpretive, and interactive trail
markers, that focus on historically
significant sites along the route. This is
a very walkable path to the summit,
and I’ve done it dozens of times.  I’ve
tried every possible approach to the
top of the hill, and this trail  is not only
a fairly easy climb for almost anyone,
but more importantly, a very direct
route from the Upper Common to the
summit.  In this age of fitness and
health awareness, this walk would tie
in nicely to our city's "Fun and Fit in
Fitchburg" and the “Fitchburg Rocks”
slogan.

Another fact that I believe to be true,
is that the city owns all the land that
the walk would pass over, including
the 75/95 acres of woodland and
quarries of Rollstone Hill.  No land
takings or right of ways would be
required.
